Jury Awards Our Whistleblower Client $397,500 Against Florida Attorney General’s Office

HammerDown

Late today, September 24, 2014, a Florida federal jury awarded our client just under $400,000.00 in losses, after the Florida Attorney General’s Office retaliated against him for speaking out about illegal practices in the workplace.

Marie Mattox, Esq., in our firm handled the case throughout and at trial.

Our client, an investigator in the agency’s Medicaid Fraud Unit, was fired, and later denied reinstatement, after he complained about various acts of gross mismanagement, misfeasance, and gross neglect of duty.  His disclosures were made to uncover issues important to the public at large and to ensure that the agency was acting within the best interests of the citizens of the state of Florida.

The case is Charles v. State of Florida, Office of the Attorney General, Etc., Case No. 4:13-CV-467-RH-CAS.   United States District Judge Robert Hinkle presided over the trial.
