Bank Sued for Disability, Age Discrimination

PANAMA CITY, Florida – PeopleSouth Bank, which operates in more than thirty locations in Georgia and Florida, violated federal civil rights law when it forced a 70-year-old employee from the workplace because of her need for accommodation before and after spinal fusion surgery, Jim Garrity charged in a new lawsuit filed in Florida federal court.

Garrity is an employee rights lawyer representing employees in workplace issues in Florida and Georgia.

Our client was scheduled for spinal fusion surgery, which commonly joins two or more vertebrae in the spine to eliminate painful disc movements. The lawsuit alleges that in discussions with a supervisor, she was informed that the bank president demanded our client move her surgery – evidently because the scheduled date was inconvenient for the bank – or her employment would end instantly.

And it did.

The lawsuit alleges both disability and age discrimination against the bank.
